Petr Christov

university associate professor, translator, critic

As a student of the Turnov high school, Petr tried out acting, lighting, and dramaturgy as a member of the Theatre Studio. He contined to study theatre and French literature at the Faculty of Arts in Brno where he got his PhD. and began lecturing on theatre.

He then located to the Department of Theatre Studies at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague and is currently an associate professor and senior lecturer in theatre theory and history. He specializes in French romantic and symbolist theatre, middle-age morality play and contemporary theatre theory. He writes, lectures and debates on theatre. He is a Czech/French translator, his focus is mostly on fiction and drama.

He co-organizes the Literary translation Workshop in Ostrava, the festival of French theatre 'Mange ta grenouille' and festival of Czech theatre in Paris Fais un saut à Prague/Na skok do Prahy. He is a member of the Maso-pust theatre board and the Academic Board of the National Museum. Petr is a fan of Gérard de Nerval and the hockey club White Tigers, and he likes listening to Berry.
